Software Engineering

GCHQ has a large embedded software engineering capability supporting its technologically challenging mission. We deploy our technology everywhere, from our high security machine rooms to remote deployments in the field.

Our challenges are some of the toughest in the industry, as we battle against massive scaling, performance and technical diversity goals. Our work ranges from small teams with each individual working the whole engineering lifecycle, through to £multi-million programmes staffed by specialist professionals cutting across industry, government and national boundaries. Common to both are the need for world-class technical staff to support our critical work.

We are constantly looking for bright, professional technical staff who share our goals and are keen to work in a challenging environment constantly adapting to rapid technical innovation. Roles include Software developers (primarily Java, JEE, C, and C++), Database developers (Oracle), Requirements Managers, Test Managers, Quality Managers, Team Leaders (Rational Unified Process), Software designers and architects (with OO, UML), Mentors (Agile, RUP), Build and Integration Managers and Configuration Managers (especially Rational ClearCase and ClearQuest).
