Sport
Where else do you get a sport which involves chasing a big cheese down a muddy hill? Or where people kick each others shins until they submit (just one of the strange events in the annual Cotswold’s Olimpicks)? Sport in the area is a game of two halves. There’s the spectator half, which includes:
- Horse riding at Badminton, Gatcombe Park and the world-famous racecourse
- Professional rugby with Gloucester in the Premier League
- Cricket with Gloucestershire
- Football (there’s Cheltenham Town or Premier league football
in Birmingham)
There’s also the participating half, with plenty on offer, from fishing, golf and horse-riding to mountain-biking and rambling. The Civil Service Sports Association offers exceptional facilities for all GCHQ employees, while there’s even a well-being centre in GCHQ’s main building in Cheltenham.
