Accessibility policy

This accessibility statement applies to the website: www.gchq-careers.co.uk

This website is run by GCHQ. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • When navigating the ‘Life at GCHQ’ page with JAWS screen reader, the users focus is unexpectedly anchored to the top of the page when tabbing to the ‘View Transcript’ and ‘Visit our Diversity & Inclusion page’ links
  • The focus order of the 'Life at GCHQ’ page may not always be logical when navigating on an iOS device with VoiceOver screen reader enabled

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

GCHQ is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

When navigating the ‘Life at GCHQ’ page on iOS with VoiceOver screen reader enabled, the focus order of the carousel items is illogical. Users may become disoriented when navigating this page with a screen reader. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.3 (Focus Order).

We plan to review this by: December 2022

When tabbing the ‘Life at GCHQ’ page with JAWS screen reader enabled, the users focus is unexpectedly anchored to the ‘GCHQ’ logo within the header when tabbing to the ‘View Transcript’ and ‘Visit our Diversity & Inclusion page’ links. The unexpected change of context may confuse or disorient users. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 3.2.1 (On Focus). We plan to resolve this by: December 2022

Disproportionate burden

We’ve assessed the cost of fixing the issues with navigation and accessing information, and with interactive tools and transactions. We believe that doing so now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. We will make another assessment when the supplier contract is up for renewal, likely to be in December 2022.
